What to look out for when buying a used atv?
#1
I am looking to buy a 98 Big bear 350. What should I look out for? One of my friends said unscrew the dip stick and rev it, if it doesn't come out its good, I think that may just get me covered in oil. What should i look out for on a test drive?

well im not into utilities i like sport
but what i would check for minor stuff
axel bearing are good
4x4(if equipped) works
throttle dont stick
all brakes work
no oil leaks
driveshaft is good
and some other stuff if you want to tear it apart
check the piston and rings
check cylinder head
make sure there are no metal shaving in your oil
basically check everything on it
just like when you get a car you check everything

some people bring a compression tester with them to see how much comp its got, pull the dipstick and wipe the oil on your finger and try to see if theres any flakes of metal or anything, also when u test drive use every single gear it has, use both brakes, and if you can give it full throttle or close to it on a straight and see if it stumbles or smokes or anything, and after riding around testing it shut it off and see how it starts back up, depending on how good a deal it is i might just check a few things, if its a real cheap price then ill just check the important stuff and not sweat the little inexpensive crap to much.
