i have an trx 400 foreman 1998 and it will shift into reverse and 1st gear but will not go into any other gear? i was riding it and it was working then i stopped and put into neutral and thats when it started. thanx i appreciate all the advice

 

skitz80 is it an ES , ESP or manual shift model ? , the reason i ask is that honda has had a good bit of woes with the ES and ESP models ever since they fist came out ; but if's it's a manual shift it could be a worn shift fork inside the tranny case , a simple cable adjust or even clutch adjustment !

I would remove the clutch cover and check the "drum shifter" to make sure 1 of the posts isn't broken off .. When 1 of the posts break it will shift fine up & down it just won't go past the gear with the broken post ..

is this part behind the clutch? and is it nescessary to remove the engine or should i have an service center do it? i mean is this something that can be done with the manual?

 

You have to remove the clutch cover and both clutches to service the gearshift assy ..
