Default 92 Trail Boss 350L 4X4 charging probs

I'm having a few problems with this one.
At the battery, I'm getting 12.1 volts when running (with a small load and rpms up). Does the regulator need to be bolted back to the body (via the 4 holes in the regulator) to get the correct current, or do I just need a new stator? I've replaced the battery.

Thanks!!!

yes it needs to be bolted back to the frame...but it could have already caused a problem...that tab that sticks out of the regulator is the ground but also acts like a heatsink. allows the excess heat buildup get carried away by the air moving around it...also lets the frame absorb some of the heat. 12.1v while reved means your note getting anything from the charging system. it needs to read something like 13.5 to 15v at around 2800RPM's

I just got it running, and it hasn't had any heat to it. I've tested the voltage in a few different places, and get the same reading. Will grounding the regulator give me a higher output? Could the regulator be bad? If the stator needs to be replaced, how hard of a task is that? It runs pretty good, just not getting the charge that I need.

Ground it and try it, if it doesnt charge I'd bet its the regulator, the older ones had problems.
