Default HELP 2008 500 EFI dies and sputters

I have a '08 Sportsman 500 EFI, bought new couple of months ago. Bone stock. Have about 100 miles, 8 hours on it. Mainly slow trails, coyote and hog huntings, etc. Broke it in slow for first few hours as recommended and have just started ridding it a little harder in last few weeks (after 4 hours run time).

Since new, bike will occasionally die and every now and then it will sputter and stall, might die or might clear up. I have kept good gas in it, and had a couple of fill ups. Does not seem to matter if it is hot or cold, been running 10 minutes or a hour, full or 1/2 full tank, etc. Usually happens just off idle, but sometimes while going up rocky hill, etc.

It is idling at 1160 - 1180 RPM, and most times has great throttle response. Air filter has not been wet, etc.

I rode couple of hours this weekend, with several other people. Technical rocky hills, trails and light mud. Died 3 or 4 times, and did the sputter and stall thing twice, died once, cleared up once. Other that this, it runs great... is getting gas, as we had a couple of nice long "drag races" on the lake side, 300 - 400 yards, and no problems here... This was the first long full throttle blast.

Ideas? Do I need to take it to the shop?

Possible map sensor wiring short. # 2876315 map sensor repair kit with new connector, heat shrink connectors. Check wiring coming out of map sensor harness located directly on top of throttle body for bare spots in wiring,or just jiggle around to see if can cause it run bad at idle. Most of the time it wont throw any codes! But will run good at times, other times crappy! Good luck opt PS IF under warranty let dealer repair!!!!!

Thanks OPT!

Might have to bring it to you... It is still under warranty, but I have moved to TX since buying it.

I will try wiggling the wires. This has been happening since new. Not very often, but when you are in a tight spot, not the time you want the motor dying...

Thanks again,
Ken

Had the same or similar problem with my 08 800. Finally gave in and took it to the shop after trying multiple things to fix it. Found out it is a known problem by Polaris. There is a Barometric Pressure Sensor with a wired connector that runs into it. One of the wires was made to short. There is a pigtail replacement bracket that cost $48ish and it is running great now. Hope this helps.
