Default recoil cover

I have a 2000 scrambler 500 4x4. I'm hearing a noise from inside the starter recoil cover and want to find out what it is, but when i went to pull the cover i noticed a fill and drain plug. Is there oil in here and if so what type. the noise sounds like something is hitting inside. Also what type of engine oil does it take? I done a search and all I've found is people using synthetic oils.I'm not looking to start another thread just what polaris calls for. I already know what brand I'm gonna use.Just single or multi wieght, conventional or synthetic. Thanks for the input.

Use Full sythetic 0w-40

The bottom plug is to drains water that gets in the recoil the top one is to inspect the timing mark on the flywheel,no oil goes in the recoil. The Bendix drives have a rattly sound that gets worst if it's end bushings start to wear.

Put grease in the 2 holes where the bendix ends mount into when you reinstall it.

mine did the same thing and it was the dog ear for the recoil spring that broke. It later came loose and messed up the stator
