Default 04 sp 500ho

Hay all,
i am having a issue with my sp. At first I thought it was a electrical but not sure. When I have the airbox lid on and get about 1/2 throttle it bogs out,bad like I cant make it up a hill it spits and sputters so bad. I take if the airbox lid and it runs fine no problems at all runs great. Air filter is new, new plug and wire.
Any suggestions?
Thanks all

That's funny, mine does the exact opposite. If the lid is off, it runs horrible and spits and sputters with only about half throttle. Any modifications to the lid? Snorkel, cut out some of it, etc?

it will run worse w/ the cover off. its getting too much air w/ the cover off. like mentioned check vent tibes and make sure the end of the intake on the lid isnt being blocked by something.

Hay all,
No mods have been made to air box. Thats what I have heard that it will run worse with the lid off but mine is doing the exact opposite . I will have to check the vent tubes.
Thanks all. Any more ideas keep them coming

I got a chance to look at the vent tubes and intake. All seam fine nothing blocking air flow. There are 2 vent tubes that run to the air box. 1 must be a vent tube for the crank case, this one blows air into the box. Is the other tube also to blow air into the box?

check your rubber tube mount to the head it might be cracked and letting in too much air from the front and causing an air lock (no venturie effect)

I had that problem and it turned out to be the foam that the end of your snorkel that goes through up under your gas tank fairing got shoved ahead and would get sucked into the snorkel openig everytime you gave it some gas.Make sure you hold the foam piece down in place and slide yor snorkel through the rectangle opening.Good luck.

Clean the carb with carb spray cleaner and blow out the air passages with pressurized air.
