clutch slipping bad
#1
i replaced my clutch belt today hoping that was the only reason my clutch was not engaging good . i rode around a few mins with the cover off and everything seemed to grab good without slipping , more engine brake than i ever remembered but owell right, wrong i soon witnessed my drive clutch back its self off my driveshft to the point where the spring was completly compressed. completelty dissingaging my belt . so i took my belt back off and removed my drive clutch for further investigation , rollers weigths , and buttons all seem fine . any ideas why its backing out?

Check for a broken spring which i'm guessing you would have seen when inspecting the other parts. But the spring might be getting weak. The spider might be loosening up. The spider is the triangle shaped part that the spring rest on, it threads onto the main shaft that the spring goes around. Check all the bushings.
Also check for a loose or broken engine or tranny mount which is letting the clutch flex out of alignment.

well i am ordering new clutch buttons because there is a few ugly ones ,i guess i just have to assume who ever serviced my clutch last didnt torque the spider to the full 300 ft lbs or something . the dumb part is the stupid jam nut is cracked and i cant find one anywhere !pure polaris doesnt even show that part for my clutch , then i got one dealer saying they dont show me having one on my clutch layout , and another dealer saying agreeing with me that if i took one off im pretty sure i should be putting one back on. not even a part number for me those useless duds! but either way , most of the jam nuts ive seen around here here in posted pics look like a muuch stronger steel one , and the dealer says stay with plastic , id prefer brass but does anyone know who even carries them ?

Both people are kind of right. Not all Polaris come with them for some reason. On most of the Polaris ATVs they are plastic. Polaris snowmobiles use the metal ones which look exactly the same and uses the same tool to remove and install. I don't know if they interchange. I agree that if your clutch had a nut on it you should put on back on it.
