Default 06 250 grinds won't move

My friends 250 crapped out on a ride this past weekend. We were going up a hill and it just stopped, wouldn't go anymore. When you put it in any gear it just makes a grinding noise and won't move. Don't have any idea what could be wrong, don't know too much about arctic cats. Any help appreciated.

I recently fixed a friends Honda 250 ,a recon I think, that did something similar. We initially thought the rear diff was toast. His has a solid rear axle, not sure if your AC does. Any way, his brake pads had exploded inside the "sealed" drum housing and had messed up the bearings on the housing. The race and bearings were so torn up that they would put the axle in a bind and it would not move. You could rock it back and forth a few inches but it would not go any where.

I think your AC may made by KYMCO as AC started having the 250's and 300's made by them I just don't recall the year they switched.

If I was fixing it I might see if I could remove the drive shaft to see if the rear axle spins if not connected to the tranny. There should be a bolted cuplink covered by a large rubber boot on the drive shaft between the motor and the rear diff.

If the rear axle spins freely then I would say its a tranny issue. If it does not then I may look at the brake housing and bearings (if it has drum brakes) OR the rear diff if it has disk brakes. Either way I would get a service manual for it OR take lots of pictures as you take it a part.

He found out what it was already. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but what happened was a bolt somehow broke in the tranny and just sheared the gears. Thanks for you input and help.
