Default Battery charging

Is it possible to trickle charge the battery thru the aux. 12v power outlet on the 2004 1/2 700 sportsman??? Want to have a rapid way to connect and disconnect the charger during cold weather.
Thanx,
Slingshot4

the head light cig outlet. the answer is no. as it turns off with the ign/key

if your talking a black plug with 2 wires looks simalar to a trailer plug but only half the size. that are common for the aux power on the rear of the atv "yes" you can. as it should be wired to the battery. and hot all the time and have about a 15amp fuse. iv done it many times. i evon added one to my vehicle. there fast and easy to add to a charger.

Thanx for the reply Chuck. although in the back of my mind, and if I remember correctly, I've had a spotlight remain on after turning the key off. Will check it out tomorrow..

Just get a connector that attaches to the battery terminals and offers a connector that you can place outside the battery compartment. For my setup, I permanently attached a connector to the battery and ran the rest of the wire, with a connector on the end, to just outside of my seat..... I plug it in when I park and disconnect when ready to ride. Pretty simple. I went with a battery tender from these guys:

Batteries: Laptop Batteries, Battery Chargers & more - BatteryMart.com

here's a link to the one I have:
Battery Tender Plus 12 Volt 1.25 Amp Battery Charger: BatteryMart.com

You'll notice the connector that permanently attaches to the battery.

Cheers,
cc

Just checked my 700 Sportsman this am.. Aux. outlet, better known as a cigarette lighter, in headlight pod is hot at all times. Have been using BatteryMinder on my other vehicles ie, tractor, farm jeep etc. and have been pleased with results. Need 2 more..skid steer and atv. Just hope no diodes or relays to cause problems on the Sportsman. BTW, Large Polaris dealer also stated that the aux.outlet was keyed controlled.
Thanx
