Default Polaris Sportsman Exaust

How does a 05 polaris sportsman 500 ho sound like with out the exaust? Alwats wanted to know but didnt want to mess with exaust. I think my quad sound really stupid. There is no rumble at all. it sounds stupid. My brother has a brute force and a arctic cat and they sound awesome. Is there anything i could do except buy exaust to make it sound good? Just a rumble not like the anoying raceing quads

I've had my muffler off before while doing some work and tried it out just to see and it sounds. Really good! Although I would'nt run it that way all the time unless your going to rejet and other mods. If you open up the exuast your going to lean it out a bit and might want to consider other mods. Just my opinion.

On my 2000 500 Sportsman i took off the muffler when do some work. I wanted to know what it sounded like and holy crap was it loud. I couldn't believe that a machine that ran so quiet would be that loud. It sounded bad *** for a few minutes but wouldn't want to run it that way. You normally need some type of back pressure/muffler to make the engine perform its best.

You could try glass packs if you don't want to spend the money on a full exhaust, they are fairly cheap and sound pretty good, there's some clips on youtube

you could go to a farm&home supply and get a larger garden tractor muffler with a straight thru design($25-$30) but you'll need to modify the inlet and make some hangers

Default Muffler Mod

I cutoff the elbows, cut bigger hole in muffler and welded 1 1/2" dia stainless elbows on mine. sounds alot better and has more power.

I'm doing the same thing to my new etx. But I stuck a prybar down the inlet tube and opens the holes in the front baffle a little bit more. Can't wait to see how it works out. Want a little more flow and power but don't want it loud.
