Timing a 300ex
#1
ok ok..i got this much
you move it to top dead center, on what stroke?
And just how do i know i am on this stroke?
my dad was asking that..
and i was thinking why the hell does it matter!
you are setting the timing..so if the piston is at top dead center..and the cam is at the straight up and down position..its going to set it up right..because it isn't on a certain stroke, the stroke is decided by the cam?
the cam is going to do it in the right order?
This is what i don't understand...!!! come on..someone help me

what i just figured out..
i am going to be on a permanent compression stroke because the valves are always going to be closed. So if i look at the fly wheel..there is a TDC mark correct? So i am going to be on the compression stroke TDC no matter what..!!

Aaron what exactly are you trying to do? Put your motor back together? and setting the cam/crank timing?
Basically as long as you set the crank at the tdc mark and the cam is set at the right mark you are all set. The cam is what actually decides on what stroke you are on. As long as the cam is set right and the crank is in the right postion it doesn't matter.
