2006 Sportsman 500HO: Zero maintenance rear gearcase?!?
#1
I'm getting ready to do the annual maintenance on our machines, including my wife's 2006 500HO. My 2004 SP700 gives explicit instructions for changing the lube in the front and rear "gearcases" (differentials). But the Polaris owner and service manuals for her 2006 speak only of servicing the front differential. There is absolutely no mention of the rear at all. The charts showing service intervals don't list it, the text and photos describing the procedures don't mention it, nothing.
So what's the story? I can't believe no maintenance is required.
Thanks!

must be a misprint or something weird as yes you do the service onthe rear end as well as the front. pretty much just follow what the 700's service is as thier pretty much the same i belave.

I didn't realize the drivetrains are different between my SP700 and her SP500. Mine has three distinct maintenance areas: front diff, transmission, and rear diff. Hers lists only two: front diff and transmission. You're saying the rear end of her machine is more like a transaxle, with the transmission and diff integrated into a single unit.
I wonder why Polaris made the two machines differently like that. Any ideas?
Thanks!

It could be that since the 700 is a twin and has a different block than the 500 single that both trannys are not interchangeable with one another . But I'm just guessing I have no idea . I do know tho that the 500 tranny-diff unit is very reliable .
