Default Master Cylinder corrosion....

Hey guys I have an '05 700 EFI and the outside of the MC is getting pretty corroded...I must have a small leak or something...the brakes work fine...I looked thru my service manual and it says the MC is not serviceable and has to be replaced as a unit.....Anyone else encountered this problem??Thanks..

John

I tried to correct the spelling of Master in the subject but wasn't able to.....How can I??? Oh well

If it's the same problem I had on our magnum, it's the lid and the seal. Did since the day it was brought home new. Dealer just tightened the screws and said there was nothing wrong with it.

Don't know if they sell just the seal, never did really fix ours, just kept the screws tight and didn't overfill it.

I do know from another wreck on our trail boss, they only sell the unit complete. But it was definitely broken so we didn't check for just the seal.

I got the whole unit on ebay, plus a new set of bars, side covers, tank cover and tie rods all for just over 100 bucks. Seems like the master cylinder alone was 172 from the dealer. Plus, I needed a few of the those parts too.

My 05 700 does the same thing, was missing paint around the sides of the brake reservoir. Not sure if it does it anymore or not after I tightened the bolts.

the top seal (rubber gasket) tends to let seepage out. not that big of deal except for you have w/ the paint peeling and alittle corrsion.
