Default 1998 Polaris Scrambler 400 drive belt cover

I was thinging of buying a scrambler 400.The drive belt cover is melted through on the top of the cover and rubbing against the drive belt.Is this common on these machines and is it as simple as replacing the cover or is there more to it?

The older covers were bad for distorting, the new ones have that problem fixed.

welcome to the forum. he could have been resting his foot on top of the cover as well as what tlc said which is very true. the newer covers are better and it's easy to replace it.

you might want to step back a minute and try to find out how it got that hot in the first place, might have secondary clutch issues.

Might have been installed incorrectly, should have a foam ring, and like 8 bolts with a metal C-Clip to hold it together in the back. Check the backside cover to make sure it is in alignment with the motor, metal ring around crank with 3 bolts for primary, and same goes for secondary

The better covers came out in 2000 here are some old post from people with your problem. New cover may have extra hole but will still work.
