When we purchased our 2001 H.O. we also purchased the Warn winch. We have had this for approximately three months and have used the winch with our plow only. While plowing snow last night the cable broke about six inches above where the cable is spliced to itself, just above the hook. The cable appears sort of frayed. Just did not expect this to happen as I have not put it to any rough use as of yet. Any comments or thoughts as to why this would happen are appreciated and the best and safest way to repair cable.

It would appear that it must have been rubbing on the fairlead, is that possible? Do you have a roller fairlead? If not then that is probably the fix.
Hope this helps.

Its not all that uncommon to break a winch cable especially if you plow alot. The constant moving and flexing at the same place will break it down fairly quickly. Keep your fairlead rollers lubed up too, it will help some. Replacement repair ends are available at Fleet Farm or Northern.
I have a spare old cable I put on for the winter just for that reason. It has gone from 25 ft down to maybe 15 or so.
