Default 87 YFM80 Manual

Hi everyone!

Im looking for an online repair manual for my 87 YFM80.

I just got it working again after 10+ years of downtime. I rebuilt the carb and changed the fluids. It cranks with the starter and I can get it up through 3rd gear, but the shift lever goes up and down way too far, no matter how much I tighten it. 4th and 5th dont seem to engage at all.

Its smoking really bad too, but I think after running a few tanks of gas and a few oil changes will stop it. The carb was growing white rust crystals on the inside so I imagine the engine has a lot of buildup in it too.

If anyone knows where I can download a manual, or has any advice, lmk. Thanks!

Hi, I have a 2003 Raptor 80 that had the same problem shifting. The problem is the end of the shifting shaft that changes gears has come loose where it is pressed on. You can go to this address and put in your model and you can see the shift shaft.

My Yamaha Prompt - Parts Catalog

The only way to repair this other than replacing the shaft is to weld it on the end.

I just bought a Clymer repair manual for $22.42 plus shipping; total $30.52; I could not find one online. If you have a specific problem I could send you a couple of pages online for you to read if that will help.
Meanwhile I have a 1986 YFM80 4 speed youth model and the choke was apart when I got it; can you tell me how to put it back together; mainly how many times to wind the spring so the choke operates the way that it should. The manual only says "dont take it apart"; lol not very much help to me cuz it was apart when I got it.
Sure would appreciate some knowhow sent my way.

This is a PS to my above post.
Would you have a schematic you could post?

Thanks for all the posts guys!

I got it up and running again, I bought a used clutch from ebay for $40 and it turned out I just needed a new shift lever, so I ordered one from my local shop. Shes up and running again, like a beast!

If youre looking for an online schematic, I used this website: yamaha partsmanual fiche yfm80s moto 4 1986 yfm80

I just saved each of the PDFs to a folder so if the website ever takes them down Ill have a permanent copy.

Glad to see you got her running again.

Many thanks for the link to the site you posted. I will do the same thing and download everything into a folder for future use.
