So lets say I overfilled a CV boot with grease....

Could I expect a big pile off grease gobbed up in the strut housing where the shaft goes thru?
Cause that's what I found after I put my Scrambler back together. I got a Moose boot and cleaned out the CV joint, filled that with grease, put what was left in the boot, then put the packet of grease that came with the boot into the boot.....Also, the clamp seemed to hit the stut housing, allowing the boot to spin inside the clamp. I hit the lock or whatever with a hammer to flatten it out more, so now that seems to clear fine.
I took off the wheel and caliper, and couldn't see any tears or anything in the boot, and the clamp still seems tight, so I'm curious if it was just too much grease in the boot, or if I need to look closer for a tear.
Thanks!!
Oh, 99 scrambler 400 4x...

If you hit the clamp with a hammer to flatten it you might have pinched the boot and may have grease slinging out of that area. I did that on my 500 and instead of flattening the clamp I grinded a little of the aluminum to clear the clamp. So far so good.

yes i belave you can add too much grease to it where it would force the extra out. the packet that comes w/ the boot kit is all you need. you want to make sure where the boot is seated into the grooves that there is no grease under it so there willl be a good seal. imo

Well I couldn't find any rips, so I think it was overfilled......now since the grease was able to come out, you suppose water would be able to get in, or was it just enough pressure that was able to force the grease out? The band is still tight, and I really don't wanna tear it all back apart again to since I'm getting ready to do the other side...
with less grease, of course
Thanks guys!!

I think the shaft needs to be able to slip in & out easily- too much grease will lock it up and prevent that- or force it out at the weakest point. I found this out recently when I replaced my boots- I used too much grease and the shaft wouldn't slide (hand strength) and then it squished all out when I forced it. I would just use what it came with in the pack.
