I have a 97 300 and I can't tell you about any problems. Change the oil and add gas, ride it. Mine gets used for pulling trees, heavy trailers and getting around camp. I have a 1500 superwinch on it that I have had to use a couple of times while using it in the creek to pull debris out of the creek. Have fun on it.

have had 3 different 300 4x4 a 96,97,and 99. like the man said gas and oil. They are great and bullet proof. The only problem I have is they ride like a log wagon. But other than that they are great good luck.

I had a '92 300FW and had only one recurring problem......FRONT BEARINGS......they suck water.
It's a couple hour job. To see if your bearings are good, jack up the front end and grab the front wheel at the top and bottom and try to wobble it. If it wobbles, the bearings may be bad (or the CV shaft nut may not be torqued correctly). If it doesn't wobble the bearings are probably good. This is somewhat of a soft spot with Hondas as the bearings are not truely sealed and there is no way to relubricate them without disassembly.
p.s. I would remove the air filter (on any machine) and clean it thoroughly, and then LIGHTLY oil it with the recommended filter oil.
Enjoy your new quad
