HOT LEG !!!!! On 08 800 Sportsmans
#1
Hey i am new to this site, i was wondering if anyone out there has any advice for me. I just bought two new 800 HO Sportsmans and in driving them have noticed on both machines, that on the right side it gets *&^% HOT, hot enough to burn. Is there a shield made to stop this, or is this a known problem and there is a fix from the dealer???? I allready called the dealer and this is the first time that he said he has heard of it ha ha.
Also i love the sound of the Hot Seat Performance exhaust with the true duels. Customer service said it fits the 07 models but not the 08 he said that Polaris made a suspension change on the 08 and it doesnt fit perfect on one side..he also said that he has heard that with some shims it can be made to fit. Before i drop 800 on the exhaust i was hoping to get some input from someone that has done this exhaust on a 08 800.
Thanks in advance

I remember Polaris having a melting plastic problem a few years back, They had a recall and fixed it with a heat shield of some type. You could try that shiny foil tape on the inside of you side panel or that exhaust wrap badging stuff those guys use on custom choppers.

I'd check to see if it has a heatshield. If it does'nt maybe it's on the recall list? If it is polaris should take care of it for free. Not sure what years were affected.

I did a search on your 08 and came up with nothing. I read somwhere that it was a issue on some models but be danged if I can remember now. I'd check to make sure you have heat shields in place and if thats not enough I'd try TLC's idea about wrapping the pipes. Maybe someone else will chime in with a little more info for your problem.

There should be a metal heat shield all the way back and heat tape on the plastic. If not, popo should provide it. I have a monster of a shield on my 09.
As for the HSP's, they will fit. I put spacers on the left side bracket(where it mounts on the frame) and they worked. Really close to the shock mount but didn't have issues before my lift. Had to do some mods with the 6" lift but it was pretty simple. Lot less heat with the true duals also!

both on my 06 and my 08' 800's were hot lie you have found out. they did make a heat shield change which is already on your 08' 800(at least it should be from the factort) the 05's were the ones doing most of the melting of the plastic. if you do a search on here you'll find we have coved this subject alot and there is a few things that you can do to help. but for the most part it is the nature of the beast.
