After a painful intake check on the shee (doing everything double)...I really start thinking about making a 500CR powered 250R. But my question is how handles a stock 250R, say, if I find a stock rolling chassis 250R, is the handling gonna be as good as the reputation says?
Just don't want to waste my summer working on it and discover that it's not much better than my shee

I bought my 250r when it was all stock.it handled well in the woods and just playin around but on a mx track it beat the crap out of me!I would bottom every jump the suspension would get loaded up in whoops and it just was plain unrideable.Although I have never rode a stock shee I think I would go ahead and keep it.the cr500 motor's are very hard to start. And produce alot of vibration. It would probably weaken the frame quite alot.

My dad had a 94 cr500r and he had to lean it over and wait for it to start comin out the over flow and then just wail on the kick starter. The dealer we bought it from said all big bore 2 stroke mx bikes are like this.

I would keep the shee!

I love my 250r but it is so moded now that it handles extremely good and is fast enough to be competitive(sp?)on a track.

moded out 86 trx250r

Little precision : I will never get rid of the shee!!!
That's why I'm looking in a stock 250R frame and not a used LSR or race chassis (big $$$).
I'm hesitating between keeping my money (and spending some on the shee) or going all the way for a 500...
It's obvious that if I spent what would get in a 500 only upgrading the shee, I would have a great bike...but I don't think I would have enough courage to do it...

if ur gonna do a CR500 in a R frame..don't even bother with the stock frame, it will crack and break apart in no time. go with an aftermarket frame.

I know the 500 will vibrate...but even mounted on antivibe silentblocs, the frame would crack?
Would there be a difference compared to a 360 or 2500cc (single, 2 stroke -forever-), talking vibration...the power loss is minimal, starting ease way better...maybe a 360...but finding a KTM engine here is gonna be tough!

Check out my friends 2000 CR250 in a 250R frame.

He put a lot of time into it.

if you want to know more about it, just ask.

it will break the stock frame, no matter what. Even in an aftermarket frame, it will require frequent tightening of the motor mounts etc. It is fatigueing to ride because of the vibration. I would take a look at getting a big bore motor for the stock 250R bottom end. MP Racing makes a nice 400 Polaris to 250R bottom end converstion (he uses the stock bottom, no mods to it) that rips.

all in all, unless you're just racing the bike, a non counterbalanced engine is NOT the way to go.

Why is it so hard on the quad frame? Why don't the bike frames fall apart? Or do they?
