My cable on my winch was all messed up, I had to cut it off.

I want to know what the LB is on the cable. I have 2500lb warn winch.

does that mean the cable is 2500lb?

 

A Warn 2500 would have a 3/16" diameter cable. You can get another direct replacement from Warn for like 50 bucks for steel or 75 bucks for a synthetic.

Something to think about is that there are working load limits and breaking strength. The WLL is the most load that should ever be put on the cable and this is assuming the load is being uniformly and evenly applied. Wrapping a cable around a tree and hooking the cable is a great way to throw the uniform/even loading out the window and create a "weak link in the chain".

Other things to consider is that a winch will usually have atleast 4 wraps of cable on the spool. The ratings are for 1 wrap (the wrap right on the drum). 2 wraps probobly puts a 2500# winch at 2200#, 3 wraps at 1900#, etc....

It is a good idea to pull alot of wraps off the drum in tougher pulls to get the most torque out of the winch and reduce the draw on the battery.

How strong is a typical 3/16" steel cable? About 4,000#.

I like synthetic ropes myself - good mildew-resistent/rot-proof ones like Master Pulls. A synthetic 3/16" rope is good for another 1,000# or so

 

just go and get some 3/16" cable to replace it with and you should be fine. imo

 

I went to my Polaris dealer, they want $60.00 for new cable.

My question is I can go to farm store in my area Get 3/16 1260 lb cable
for $25.00 I wanting to know if that cable will work and be strong a nuff or do I need the one from Polaris

 

Look on ebay. They usually have pretty good deals on replacement cables. My wife got me an amsteel sysnthetic 50' for christmas $40 which is about $30 cheaper than any place locally. Ebay also has warn steel replacements.

 

Amsteel for 40 bucks? Sweet deal for sure!

 

I just looked it up on ebay to confirm the price I stated. 50' steel cable with hook(not warn) $15.50+ $5.00 shipping, Amsteel synthetic 45' $41.00+ $5.00 shipping 50'amsteel $44.00+ $5.00 shipping. Those are pretty good price's IMO.

 

IMO it's worth that little bit extra $$ to get the real deal and not a cheap alternative. Either the proper replacement wire or go that bit further and use synthetic, it's by far the best.

When you snap the cheap wire one day and it whips past your head you'll wish you'd spent that little bit extra.

Yes it's a synthetic rope that is stronger than steel of equivalent size. There has been much debate over which is better. Now that I've got the synthetic I can say I like the synthetic better. Light weight, non-kinking,no more steel wires getting your hands, and if by chance it does break you can just tie a knot in it to get you by, There is an actual technique for repairing them. Only draw back that I see is you need to watch abrasion on rocks and rough surfaces, as that can wear or cut the fibers and weaken the rope. The link you posted is from the same seller My rope came from, (blitzkreig.com) I recomend them, true to their word, not some cheesy knock off.
