Default 08 400 outlander max NO "H" "L" indicator?

Hey guys,

I have a 2008 400 outlander max bought new this past winter. I noticed when I got it Home with about 2 dealer miles on it that the dash did not have an H for High and L for low on it so I figured no problem have them take a look at the first service. When I went to pick it up after the first service they told me they would have to order the part and next time I brought it in they would correct it. so with the economy being rough and all I figured hey I will bring it in for an oil change and have them get the money from BRP for the indicator. (also told them the gear selector was near impossible to shift sometimes even when doing the chicken dance so if there was an adjustment please do that, also on deceleration there was banging or what sounds like gear slap from the rear so if they could check that out too) ok so the dealer called up yesterday and told me the quad was ready $209 and change. I said how much does an oil change cost? they said they put a lot of time into it riding and checking it out and the thing with the high and low indicator does not exist the bike only shows P, R, N that is it. so am I getting ripped?

We have an 05 Outty 400, and we don't have the H and L indicators. I think the 400s still have the analog dash, correct? I would bet the 500+ models have the H and L indicators being they have a digital dash board.

Gear selectors on these are a pain. Ours has never shifted nicely and its one of my biggest peeves with the machine. Some people on here have a fix though by swapping out a bearing in the tranny. Might not want to do that on a brand new vehicle yet though. Make sure your not idling too high, cause they don't like to shift if they are.

I get that slapping sound too but only when I'm slowing down really fast on exceptionally rough terrain. Not sure what it is, but its never caused us a problem.

Other than the few annoyances which you seem to have already found, they're a great machine. They can climb anything.

Oh and 209 is not terrible. ATV dealers LOVE to bend you over. I've yet to find a good one around here.
