We purchased a new 2008 Sportsman Polaris 300 back in Dec 09. We have now taken it to the dealer for the 5th time for the same thing. After riding, approx 20 hours between servicing, we keep finding fine grains of sand in the carb. The dealer has replaced o-ring/seat etc 2 times, they ended up replacing fuel system, tank, carb etc. They have rerouted fuel lines, put 2 fuel filters in and yet we still keep getting sand in carb. It is not coming from the gas...gas was drained and very clean. Each time, it has been running, then will be difficult to crank, and then after riding for a while, will start sputtering and immediately shut off, fuel pouring from the overflow. Has anyone else experienced problems with find grains of sand getting in carb? We live in a very sand area. We're thinking it may be coming in thru the air filter compartment. Would trying a different air filter work? What about putting some "spray oil" on the filter where it attaches thereby having sand stick to oil instead of getting in carb? Would putting any type of "spray oil" hurt anything else? Any ideas are welcome!

Are you running a factory Pre-filter on this Quad?
How about the clamps and air-intake hoses/ducting......Caper.........

 

Definitely should have a pre-filter if in the sand. Ditto on checking the airbox seal and also check the airbox tube going to the carb for fitment/seal/cracks. Spraying oil on a stock paper filter will clog and trash it. May want to try a K&N with pre-filter.

 

I would stay away from a K&N with the very sandy conditions he described....IMO...................K&N=more airflow=less filtered protection in my book..................Remember IMO.........Caper..........
