Default New, or Rebuilt Starter?

The starter on my 2009 XP 850 is done, it took in water over the last few months I assume, the waterproofing didnt do its job. Now i'm torn between buying a new starter from Polaris ($500), Or getting mine cleaned and rebuilt ($60-$80).

The problem is, how do I re-seal and water proof my starter once it's been rebuilt? Any Idea's???

I'd clean it up and put a rebuild kit in. I did mine last summer and also decided it needed some "waterproofing". Once I had it rebuilt I cleaned the exterior with a scotch pad, paying attention to the seal areas. I used RtV anywhere there was a possible water issue, bolt heads, around the exterior gaskets, face of the starter, recoil cover and pull start handle. No water/starter issues since.

Ah ok... i actually bought a product from "Loctite", its called "colour gaurd". You dip the starter into the liquid, and it dries to form a rubberized coating, i hope it works...
