500 ho top speed in low gear
#1
My wife and brother in law were hitting 20 MPH in low gear on my sportsman yesterday. I told them not to go over 15 MPH but of course they heard 20.
I don't think it hurt anything but I was just wondering if anyone has topped out their low gear. What speed does the limiter kick in.
Also I'm running 27" tires.

When To Use Low Range vs. High Range
Following is a guideline for when to use low range and high range.
Low Range
-When basic operation is at speeds less than 7 MPH
-For heavy pulling
-When operating in rough terrain (swamps, mountains, etc.) at low
ground speeds
High Range
-When basic operation is at speeds greater than 7 MPH
-When operating at high ground speeds
I'm not sure when the rev. limiter kicks in but I don't go above 15 in Low. Basically, I leave it in high unless I'm going to be consistently under 10 mph for awhile.

As a rule, tell them if you can't run up and catch them to kick their butts for going to fast, they're going to fast.
Note: If they are going too fast to catch, this does not exclude the butt kicking later.

With my wife and son and then my Brother in law (which is a big guy) there was alot of weight on the quad. Infact I am now looking for some HD rear springs because the back end was a couple inches from rubbing. Not sure if it bottomed out over bumps but I would put money on it.
I figured since they had our little guy with them they would be going slow.
My wife said to me later that she was going to go 30. I think she needs a lesson on CVT clutches. Time to break out the whiteboard.
