Default is this running to lean?

i put an exhaust, intake and bigger main jet (came with exhuast)on my 07 wolverine, and set the mixture screw 2 turns out, ran like crap, turned the screw 3 turns out, and it still runs like crap, takes about 5 seconds to rev up to full throttle, cant hold an idle, and backfires on deceleration, sounds like its lean to me, but my question is, is it ok to turn the mixture screw out 4 or even 5 times? or do i need to pony up and buy some even bigger jets?

If I were you, I would go one bigger on the pilot jet and see what it does. The main jets that come with exhaust aren't always the best setup. Altitude, riding style, climate, and just that particulat bike in general may require a bigger or smaller jet. The backfiring on decel. can be a sign of an exhaust leak or running lean. How much bigger that stock is the main jet? Also the addition of an aftermarket intake, or taking the airbox lid off will alter the jetting also. On one of my bikes when I installed an aftermarket exhaust and no airbox lid the manufacturer reccommended going up one size on the main and after tuning it in I ended up 7 sizes up.

Ive got DG exhaust kid on my 92 timberwolf and have it at appropriate settings, factory jet kit. when i let off the gas it likes to pop kinda like a 4 wheel drive chevy with big pipes... that mean i need to turn out the mixture screw a little more? or should i just get jet kit and be done?

When you let off the throttle and it pops you're either lean or sucking air at the headpipe to cylinder gasket. The mixture screw probably won't help it's only for the pilot jet.
