Default 03 Sportsman 90 brake lever

Hello
My son's Sportsman 90 is designed to start only if the left brake lever is applied. However, lately if you apply more than moderate pressure while trying to start it , the motor just cranks and doesn't run. When it is running, the same amount of pressure causes the motor to shut off. What might be causing this and how do I fix it?

Thanks for your help.

Replace the starter interlock switch on the brake assembly, sounds like the little plastic plunger is damaged. Don't tie these switch leads together as the brake light will constantly stay on. Plunger switch just plugs in the housing. OPT
