Default Water pump seal 1996 sportsman 400

Hello all,
I have a slow leak in the area of my water pump. I am told that it is most likely the water pump seal. Is this a job that I can do myself in my garage. I am NOT a mechanic, but work on and mod. my own ATV's and Waverunners superficially. What is the best way to get to the water pump? Flipped on its back with the skid plate off??

Thanks.

BB
