Default air/fuel screw carb adjustment question

Hello everyone
i have a 2000 warrior and wanted some advice, the bike spits and coughs when idling or on decelaration, if the air screw on the bottom of carb is turned out 1 1/2 or 2 turns from tight, if i turn it out 4 or 5 turns the bike runs perfect, does this sound like the carb is stopped up somewhere to you guys? I know the is much more than the recommended adjustment and i have not been running like this only idling a few minutes.
thanks for your advice
chris

Either the pilot jet is clogged up a bit or the pilot jet is too small. Take your pick.
