2005 Yamaha Kodiak Question
#2
What type of brake is it? Saying caliper...I would guess a disk brake...I would suggest ordering caliper and putting it on yourself...all you have to do is put it on and bleed the brakes out. I would guess that the shop wouldn't be too high on this except that they may charge more for the actual part than you would pay somewhere else.

Is this a Kodiak 450 w/ a rear disc or a Kodiak 400 w/ a drum? I had a 400 w/ the drum and had nothing but trouble keeping water and mud out. I spent the money on a set of pads, cleaned everything up, adjusted, etc. and they worked great until I hit the first puddle... a couple hours of work and $40 wasted.

Yes, it is a disc brake. I got a new brake line put in, put new brake pads and still can not get it to work well. It feels like it is trying to grab, but just does not. It will make a clicking noise when i am riding like it is trying to grab. the only other thing i could think of is the caliper. I am no machanic, but there shouldnt be too many more parts involved. I will ask the shop how much they are charging for the caliper and shop it. As for putting it on, i dont stand a chance, even though i did change the pads by myself.

Who put the new brake line on? If you did that...you can do the caliper too. You obviosly had the caliper off if you changed the pads. All you have to do from that point is take the brake line off of the caliper and put it on the new one...should be one bolt. Once the new one is back on the bike just bleed out the air bubbles. Have you ever bled brakes? Does the brake handle have pressure now or can you squeeze it all the way to the grip? Have you checked to make sure the resevoir is full?

I have an 2007 Grizzly 450 which is essentially the same as an 05 Kodiak (As long as it has IRS
)
The rear brakes on that quad are weak with the single caliper! Do what I did -- Install a second one
I bought all the parts used on ebay, except for the brake pads. I works much better and for the $160 investment for all the parts used/shipped I feel it was a good one!
If you are crafty and want specific details - let me know..
ALSO -- I do have the service manual for 03-06 Kodiak 450's so if you want a copy PM me your email address.
