FMF MegaMax II or Supertrapp IDS 2 for the Recon?
#2
I have the FMF with 6 disks and no quiet core. It really perked the little Recon up, and it isn't particularly loud either! This is tuned more for low end power, but I gained a healthy amount of high end along with it. Everything else is bone stock. I stuck with the stock foam filter because I ride in a lot of fine dust, but I think there is a K&N available for it. I would highly recommend this pipe!

I have the Supertrapp on my Recon and it works great. The Supertrapp comes with a headpipe, does the FMF?
A good place to buy either is www.rockymountainatv.com

Neither will have a direct effect on top speed. I like my Supertrapp, I was going to get the FMF because I liked how it looked a bit better but RockyMountain had it on a month backorder and I was too impatient to wait
I am running 12 discs on the quiet core, its a bit louder then stock but it makes the machine sound like it means business, not quite as nice sounding as a piped 400ex, but it sounds good.

Ursus-I am curious why you say "Neither will have a direct effect on top speed". Are you saying you can't get past the rev limiter no matter what you do (unless you alter it)? If so, I would agree and say that with a pipe you just get to the rev limiter quicker?????

YZGuy,
Off the topic, but you bring up a point of curiosity. Do these things have Rev limiters? My Rancher starts to shutdown when at full rpm - I've been trying, to no avail, to troubleshoot it as a jetting problem

Basically, the pipe doesn't change the top RPM of the engine, it just helps get you there quicker. For top speed to increase you need to either make the engine go faster(higher RPM), or change the gearing(either by changing gears or adding bigger tires).
But the bike will have more power with a good pipe so it is quicker but not faster, and since in most riding quickness (the ability to go from a slow speed to a faster one)is more important then absolute top speed.
