Default New battery not staying charged on 95 Xplorer...What gives??

If I run the lights while I plow my battery gets really weak...What keeps the battery charged on a wheeler?...Im pretty sure they dont use an alternator...so what do they use in place of one to charge battery and how can I check it and where is it located?..Thanks

get a multi meter and check at the pos anneg terminals on the battery, should be above 13 volts at idle and go mto 14 or above when engine is sped up, usually the voltage regulator goes bad , black box in front of radiator, could be the stator also

ok so if I dont have proper voltage its the regulator?...Or how do I determine if its the stator or the regulator?....Is there a simple way to troubleshoot it?

check the voltage at the battery as mentioned to make sure your pushing high 13 volts. you have to understand that the winch runs strickly off the battery and your also using the lights so it uses alot of juice form the battery. the stator which produces the the power isn't designed for high voltage out put so it can't keep up w/ the demand you put onit very good. this is only if the unit is working correctly.

I would like to clarify that I dont use a winch...I use a handle so there is no extra power being robbed from battery if I plow with lights off
