Six of one half dozen of another. It really depends I have bought them and never used them and then there was others where I got my $$$ out of them. I never used them on my 06-500 or 08-800 but on my 09-850 it more than paid for itself.
One thing to keep in mind is your Extended Warranty is only as good as your dealer which is part of the reason the one on my 06-500 was a rip-off. My 08-800 was trouble free and like I said the 09-850 paid for itself in a short amount of time with a few small jobs and wifey's warranty has already recouped part of her cost. I switched dealers after my first machine.
All that being said I bought the 60 month extended warranty on my 2011. Don't let the dealer rip you off on the cost as they make a ton of $$$ of them if you pay retail........ the 60 month warranty only costs the dealer around $600

I recently bought a new 09 500HO EFI and an 11 550XP. I purchased a 24 month extended warranty ($0 ded) for each machine. Dealer initially quoted me $650 for each machine. I offered him $300 for each and he wrote it up. As the other poster stated, there is at least a 100% markup in the extended warranties. For $300/machine for 2 years, it will give each beast time to work the kinks out under someone else's tab.
