LT80 Oil Pump
#1
I got my 7yr. old Son a 2002 Suzuki LT80 3 weeks ago & have a few questions: 1.- Is the oil fill cap for the crank case under the plasic over the head & where is the oil level check bolt? 2.- I wanted to do away with the oil injection & instead of pullin the side cover off I just took the oil pump off & removed the plastic piece that is under the oil pump. It has a gear on the end of it & a slot on the top where the oil pump fits in. Will this be ok? I capped the port on the carb where the oil line went, put a screw in the oil line runnin from the pump to the carb & removed the oil tank. I took the carb off, cleand it as it had been sittin for 2yrs. 3.- What is a good premix ratio & how do I figure how much 2 cycle oil to put in a gallon of gas to get the correct ratio? 4.- The rear brakes work but the brake pedal won't spring back up after pushin it, you have to pull it back up with your foot. How do I go about fixin this? Thank you in advance.

It's a 2 stroke, no oil in crankcase. There is a gearbox. you check that level by removing a bolt by the front sprocket. Oil should weep out if full.
Oil inj pump:: It's fine for now but when you service the clutchs you can leave out the lil plastic thing that drives the pump.
32:1 for mix ratio. Read the container for proper amounts.
Brakes:: The cable may need lubed. Some ppl add a extra spring back there.

Hehe. No dumb questions.
The rod and main bearings get lubricated with the fuel/oil mixture.
The reed cage is behind the carburator. The reed acts like a valve would in a 4 stroke. When the piston goes up it draws air in which opens the reed. When the piston goes down the reed closes and the crankcase builds pressure which fills the cylinder with fresh mix.
A guy on ebay sells a manual on CD for like 10 bucks.

I agree it's odd, every 2 stroke I have ever owned has had gear oil in the crankcase to coat the clutch and other internals. This is the only atv I have ever seen set up this way, it's more like an air cooled weed wacker than an atv engine.
What oil do you recomend for the gearcase? is a product like Bel-ray gear saver good or do you use something more like conventional 10-30w motor oil?
