Default sportsman 335 stuck in reverse

my neighbor asked me to come look at his quad the other day. when I asked him what it was doing he showed me that the quad was stuck in reverse. I checked the linkage and the shift box and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. the shift lever will move a little bit back and forth but wont move forward enough to get to neutral. its a polaris sportsman 335. he didnt know the year but im guessing early 2000's or slightly before. anyone else know how to fix this without going to a dealer?

Try taking both linkage rods off the tranny then put the shifter into neutral and manually set the tranny linkage into neutral also then reconnect the two linkage rods and see if that helps.

If that does not work the linkage rods have adjusters that need re setting once in awhile.

it won't move while the bike is shut off either? is the linkage bound up or need lubing form being rusted up? as mentioned above you may need to reset the adjusters or if not then most likely something in the trans. might be worn or broke? imo

put machine in nuetral, unhook both linkage rods from tranny, if shifter wont move now it needs taken apart, cleaned and re-filled with a little 10-40 motor oil, if shifter will move, adjust the linkage rods so they line up perfectly straight with holes in tranny linkage , try it , see if it works, may have to tweek adjustment just a little on one rod or the other, rod ends may be worn , watch them and if there is alot of movement, if so replace them
