If your sitting on the atv, the wheel on the right is not engaging in AWD. There is nothing wrong with the axle, the splines on the axle and the diff are not rounded. I have replaced the fluid. I pulled the diff today and took it apart expecting to see a busted roll cage, but everything inside looks fairly good. There is wear on the armature plate where that little copper piece rubs on it. I put my ohm meter on the wire coming out of the diff and couldn't get anything out of it, I'm not sure if that means anything?

Does anyone know what might be the problem, or anything I need to look for? I can take pictures of the inside of the diff if needed.

 

the newer diffs either spin both wheels or not at all, never seen them just spin one wheel, gotta be something broke or stripped in the axle, did you check the splines on the hub?, both cv joints?

 

I didn't check the splines on the hub, but I'm not sure how I would do that because I left the axle nut on when I pulled the diff, so I'm not sure how I would loosen that nut?

Before I took anything apart, I shook the axle and didn't feel any play in it. I also jacked the front up and spun the wheel and nothing was binding or anything.

Is there any reason why I would be getting no resistance from the coil wiring?

 

leave the tire on the hub, hold tire loosen axle nut, or use impact wrench

 

If there was a wheel cap that came off I would do that, this is a solid rim.

 

now I"M confused, there should be a rubber boot over the axle nut, if you cant hold the wheel, take the wheel off and use a bar across the wheel studs on the hub to hold it

 

Thats a good idea, but will the bar mess up the threads on the wheel studs? I can't believe the rims on this thing don't have a center cap, but it is what it is I guess!

 

Checked the axle splines, they are fine. Any other ideas?

 

you could jack up the front and put a pipe wrench on the cv axle(on the steel shaft part of course) and try to spin the tire easy then as hard as you can and if the axle doesn't spin and the tire does then stripped splines
