Default 07 500 speedo jumping around

Yesterday the speedo on the 500 started jumping around and reading real high. I was mowing the lawn with my new swisher and looked down and noticed I was going 40 mph in low gear but was only going about 5. Came to a complete stop and it stayed up around 20 mph. Seemed to work right for a little while after shutting off switching gears and starting again but didnt work right for long. Any body ever have this happen or know what could cause it. Doesnt affect anything other than putting in reverse, if I don't hold the override it will stall out. Also think it may be adding a lot of miles on the machine being its reading such a high speed when just putting around.

Try unplugging the speedometer harness connector and also the speed sensor connector for awhile and plug back in and test it out. Maybe "rebooting" will help like it does on my computer?? Plus I would check for mud and crap around the sensor mounting bracket on the caliper. OPT

Same thing happened to me when my Hall Effect Sensor went out. The engine stalls because the speedo is telling it that you are going really fast and that is the saftey overide. Easy repair. For my 2003 600 it was located at the right side brake rotor and follows up to the pod.I think it was around $65 from the dealer(?)
