Thought the 10th digit was supposed to be the year. B should be 1977, I think.
You should be able to call a dealer with the vin and get the info. That's what kawasaki's own website suggests.

Thanks I don`t dispute the fact that it could be a 77 but my brother thought it might be a 80 or 81, looking at vids on you-tube I think the bike I have is the next gen after the 77`s. I didn`t think about calling a steelership so good idea Thanks again.

Your bike can't be a 1977 model.
KDX models were made for 4 years from 1980 to 1983.
KD models were also made for 4 years from 1976 to 1979.
If you provide the last 6 digit of the VIN, I may be able to find the exact year.

This is from Kawasaki's own website. Put the full number in there and you should have the answer.
to me either.

Hayashi the last 6 digits of my vin number are numbers, I`m guessing production numbers. Thanks for your help but I`ll go the to Kawasaki dealer and provide them with the full vin number. Again thanks but I feel safer with a dealership knowing the vin than posting it online.

With what you posted that would make mine a 1977 just like what you posted earlier. but my KDX don`t at all look like the 77`s. mine looks like an 80 or 81. could it be possable the vin`s are like the cars and truck starting with an "A" being year 0 and "B" being year 1? if its this way my bike would be an 81. I`ll get alhold of a dealer and post the results in a few days.

That's because Kawasaki DID NOT make a KDX model in 1977.
The first year for KDX is 1980.
What's the mystery?
KD and KDX are NOT the same bike, only the engine cc is same and they are different in many ways.
KD - 16 hp, metal fuel tank, dual rear shocks, 5-spd trans, etc... typical 70's dirt bike.
KDX - 24 hp with piston reed valve, plastic fuel tank, mono rear shock, 6-spd trans, etc.... becoming more like early 80'sh dirt bike.
How one would scam you or steal your bike if you provide the last 6 digit of your VIN?
I think most people, if not ALL, here are trying to help you, not rob you.
