Default 1986ish 80cc Moto 4.0 Coil/CDI Test?

Hey everybody, I'm new to the site. I've acquired a Yamaha Moto 4.0. I think the year is 1986 - 1988 based on pictures. It hasn't ran in a while so I'm trying to get going again. I tried cranking it but I only get one spark when ever I turn it over. If I let it sit for a minute or two I'll get one more spark but nothing more. I checked my grounds to the coil and made sure the connection to the plug is tight but I'm still not getting anything. Most of the time I don't get a spark at all. My experience with coils in the past is it either works or it doesn't. Does anybody know the specs on the coil as far as testing it or how I can test the CDI? I'm trying not to be a parts changer. Any help would be nice. Preciate it.

Thanks a lot. I can at least do an ohm test on the coil.

hey I am having the same issue… wheeler ran great, did a top end rebuild started right up ran great. I shut it off, no spark.. been messing with it for weeks now just trying to get spark.. I’ve replaced the ignition coil and switch with all oem parts. Not sure how to test my stator. I’ve cleaned every plugin and made sure everything was connected right. I get 1 spark when I hit the switch that is it. Hoping you can still get back to me in 2023. Thanks.

Get the manual, the links above still seem good. The manual will show you how to test the resistances on trigger and power coil wires from the stator. If all the wires to the CDI test out as "right" but you don't get a spark, it has to be a faulty CDI.
