its been in my garage for 10yrs. cleaned the carb it ran great untill the next day no spark.check the coil and primary side was open. got new coil and it started up but i could tell it still had some ignition break down. then no spark again check coil and its ok. check magneto and ohmed out fine. is there a test for the cdi unit or does anybody now where to get one. dont now if the bad coil burnt the cdi out. any ideas would be a big help .

 

guys iam new to the site started to read some other post. seem to be alot of no spark problems.let me add one thing the red wire coming from the stator to cdi has good pulse voltage i got zapped

 

Sounds like a CDI problem...there really isnt any ways to test them, i would just try to borrow one from a friend real quick or if your friendly with a dealer try to borrow from there.

 

i have same prob, tested everything the same too and still no spark. if you figure anything out let me know. im leaning towards cdi as well.

 

noobody seems to have or can get a cdi unit for the year 1987. i will keep trying. may have to part out a very low milage quad

 

look on ebay tike's cycle shop [tike16] has cdi's for most atvs for $200
