Question 2005 Kodiak 450 lift and tire questions

Hey everyone I have a couple questions.

1.)I have ITP ss212 rims that are a pretty wide offset, it seems like I lost ground clearance when i put those rims on the quad. Is this true? I would say they are about 2 inches wider all the way around.

2.) If i did lose a little bit of ground clearance is putting a lift kit on the Kodiak a good idea to get some GC back? I have heard on a stock machine especially with stock rims it can mess up the axles? But if i lost a little bit of GC anyways it wouldn't be lifting it as high (say I lost 3/4" and its a 2" kit, thats only 1 1/4" extra)

3.) If i don't do a lift kit or its not a good idea, Is there any other rims I could kit with only a very small offset that wont lose any GC? Or could I go back to my stock rims and still have decent stability?

Well let me know guys, Also if I did a clutch kit What would be the best EPI kit to get with a stock engine and 26x10 front and 26x12 rear mudbugs?

Thanks!

Ok,

Not sure about the offset of the SS112 Rims, I know they will make the stance of your quad wider. I am not sure if it actually lowered your quad...

I have the CFM Performance 3" lift kit on my 2007 Grizzly 450 (same machine as yours) and I LOVE IT! I made a true 2" Lift. I am pretty hard on my quad and have not had a single issue with CV Axles and mine are stock.

I wouldn't get an EPI Clutch kit... I personally would do the 1.5mm Shim mod it is the best $8 you will spend! It is VERY easy to install too.

Hey Crazy steve. So far this is what i have done.

Remember I have 26x10 and 26x12 mudbugs with some big lugs!

I got my clutch machined by Coop45 with Mod#3. Man it made a big difference it has some awesome torque now. I can go up a 45 degree incline with about a 1/4 gas like nothing, it just pulls awesome now.I can easily do donuts now where as before I could barely. In the future I am going to do maybe .5mm shim and an EPI orange secondary spring.

I have not got a lift kit yet. I was looking at the CFM, is that a good quality kit? I was trying to wait for Rubberdown customs to make one (They said they will be making one for a Kodiak 450 IRS in late November). Do you think I should wait or just get a different one? Also even at full flex you didn't have an CV problems or binding? How many miles are on your quad and how many miles are with the lift kit? Also did u have to adjust the toe in or anything when you did the lift kit? let me know Steve!

Thanks

Putting the tires on your bike will lift or lower the whole bike. The lift kit will change the angles that the cv axels accutally run at. The extreme angles that they turn at is what tears the axels up.

Here is a link to the quick and dirty about Coops Mods.

Yamaha - Coop's Clutch Mods

Basically there are 2 mods -

#2 being to simply add shims to the shaft on your primary between the 2 primary sheaves - what this does is space the 2 primary sheaves out and allows the belt to ride lower in the primary - effectively giving you a "smaller gear" just like when you used to ride your 10-speed bicycle
It will give you a lower bottom end - meaning more grunt in the low end and more snap off the line.

I did this mod on my quad - it is VERY Cheap ~ $9 and about 2 hours MAX of your time to do.

#3 is machining the primary sheave - If I understand it correctly it basically machines the roller pockets "Deeper" allowing the primary sheave to go out farther allowing you to get your top-end back
