Default Aftermarket Carb Kit - Good or Bad?

I've been having trouble starting my '94 Kodiak, so I rebuilt the carb with an $30 aftermarket kit and I'm still having trouble, but have traced it to the Pulse Coil.

I was talking to a mechanic at the dealership yesterday who told me people using aftermarket carb kit were just looking for trouble. "The needles and jets aren't even close to the OEM parts.

Is this dealer hype or true?

Well yes and yes, sure he is wanting to sell you an OEM carb kit because he is making a great markup, and yes (some) aftermarket parts are cheap china just to be blunt about it, so as long as you stay with a quality name brand carb kit you should be fine. Beware of the EBAY items, some might be ok but the odds are against you. Hope this helps.

Thanks HTM for the reply.

I kinda figured that.

I finally got one of the dealership's mechanics confidence, took him aside and asked the same question.

He basically said what you did, There are Good and Bad. You just have to make sure the manufacturer is reputable and Beware of some of the sellers on Ebay.

Before I read your reply and talked to the mechanic, I bought a ignition coil from someone ID name "celox". Their rating was 5 Star and reviews were 99.9% positive.

Hope I didn't get screwed.
