Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you need a new water pump seal. The hole is there for a purpose,to indicate when a coolant seal or engine oil seal has started leaking and needs replacement. You need a new seal and gasket and people have changed these out WITHOUT the special tool that removes the seal,BUT damage to the shaft can happen which would result in much more $$$ in repair costs! The tool the last time I checked was around $75 dollars. Plenty of videos out there showing how to do it( the wrong way!) some the right way!
Or you can have an authorized dealer do it,usually for about a 2.0 hr labor charge plus parts. The choice is yours. Good luck OPT
