Default Running bigger tires on a Scrambler 400?

I was just curious what the biggest tire I can run on a 96' Scrambler 400 in stock form is??

I would like to run 25"s on the rear, and 26"s up front. But know I would at least have to change out the clutch, and belt. I was also thinking about swapping out an xplorer, sportsman HI/LO transmission?

I could really use some help with this.

Gear cases can be swapped, but depending on year model of the gear case, you may have to make some mounting adjustments, etc PLUS you have to have the gear selector(with the wiring also) and tie the awd ino you machine . Others that may have done this can give you more detailed instructions, plus offer suggestions on tires. I just repaired what was broken on the atvs! OPT

I have 25's on a 2000 polaris 400 scrambler. low gear would be nice going this route. the bigger tires gear it up alot.

had to buy new rims for the front to fit the bigger tires.
you have to have the same size on the front and the back.

I just ended up buy'n some new 22's for it. I bought a set of the Carlisle 489's. Their good tires, and I tried to get it stuck over the maylong weekend. But they dugg their way outa everything I threw at them.
Bigger tires woulda been cool, but I really didn't need them.

Thanx for the response though man.

to be honest, the caristiles are crap. the are so thin and get caked. Swaped out mine for bearclaws and i go more places than my dads sportsman can go with the stock charistiles. and they are tough as nails.

489s are really good on dirt but not so great in mud.

I don't really know a-boot that?
I went threw some pretty nasty soup with these tires.

The fronts kinda plugged up a bit, but still had decent traction. The trick is keep'n them spinning.. lol
