Default Oil pump priming

I just finished installing all new bearings and seals in my 96' sportsman. Put it all together put oil in it, coolant, ect. Started right up and runs great. Then I see on the oil changing kit that it says to prime the oil pump if I disconnected the lined going to and from the engine. I did not do that but it seems to be pumping oil just fine. The oil tank and filter get warm so I know that it is pumping. Is this a nessesary step. Could it still be "not primed"?

Thanks,
Jeff

I never do it, I just drain the oil tank and turn over the motor for a few seconds to get the additional half a cup of oil out of the motor,s crank case.

Kits say to prime, but not necessary only if engine is completely dry such as when you do a rebuild. This is to keep from running engine with parts "dry" until oil pump primes up and distributes oil.Pump will prime even if you don't block off vent, but just takes longer time to do so. How did you replace all bearings and seals without disconnection lines, did you pull the oil tank oil tank with the engine?? OPT

Yes, I unhooked everything. Pretty sad you have to take the entire engine apart to replace the water pump bearing. Seems to be great now. $300.00 plus to replace a $15.00 bearing.
