12 Volt Accessory Outlet
#1
I just purchased a 2007 Polaris Trail Boss 330, and I would like to add a 12 Volt Accessory Outlet to charge my electronics while riding on the trail.
My questions is regarding the wiring harness from the factory. Is there a pigtail in place already or an easy splice I can make under the hood for power, or am I going to have to run new leads all the way from the battery to the front of the ATV?
Thanks.

There's almost always a red/white,OR a violet or orange/white unused wire on later models under the front panel that's powered only when the key is on. Tie the hot wire on the dc outlet to the unused wire, plus just mount the ground wire from the dc outlet to the frame for ground or tie into any brown(ground) wire. You can mount the accessory outlet on the front panel as I've see some do or on the side panel either one. OPT

Great info OPT, thanks. I took a quick look under the hood yesterday and only noticed an unused black wire coming off a group of yellow wires. I will dive in a little deeper and try to find the colors you mentioned.

Did not see any of the above mentioned colored wires free under the hood.
I did however notice that the what I thought was a free black wire was actually a free yellow wire in a black sleeve. I tested this wire and found that it supplies 10.9V, while tapping into other leads pulls 12.5V. I don't know the significance of this, and since I am powering low voltage electronics that have their own 3-7V chargers I don't think the output would be a problem unless this wire has another purpose. The yellow wire is only hot when the key is on and the kill switch is set to run.

Trying to find a reason this wire is only offering 10.9v before I hook up to it. It is a yellow wire, in a black sleeve, with a bullett type connector on the end, coming from a group of yellow wires off of the main ECM wire harness.

Don't tie into the yellow wire.. Tie into a red/white if you have a spare or you can tie into one already in use by just using a scotch lock connector. Or you can tie into a red,but it has power all the time. If you leave anything plugged up and on,will drain the battery down. Several ways you can get power to the acc outlet. OPT
