I've got a 2000 big bear that will sometimes give me just one click when I push the start button. Sometimes it will work normally the very next time it's pushed, sometimes it does it until I get frustrated and pull start the quad. When I do use the pull start it will almost always start on the first pull. I can't tell any pattern with when it chooses to give me the click as far as how long the quad has sat, if it's been running or whatever it seems to be pretty random. The battery is pretty new, connections look clean and tight. Spark plug was just replaced today and I get plenty of spark. Could I have a bad selonoid or the relay by the battery?
