Default 2005 polaris shifting problem

I have a 2005 polaris 4x4 utility. Just rebuilt carbuerator and went for a test ride. As I was parking, the transmission would make a thudding noise and would not go in to neutral, and seemed to stick between gears. After a few tries, it would change gears but always with a thunking noise. Finally able to get in to neutral and shut the engine off. What could be the cause?
I am not a mechanic,I just drive.

Check the belcrank (linkage lever) on the transmission to see if it's tight and splines aren't stripped. Also could possibly be a belt/clutch problem if it's hard to shift. Rear clutch can be turning, causing the transmission gears to keep turning while trying to shift. If you eliminate the linkage as a problem, pull the clutch cover and see if the rear clutch is not moving while in neutral and running. If it is, could be the belt is riding up on the front clutch sheath and not center of the one way bearing in the front clutch. See if these breakdown pics helps.
