Default Countershaft bearing polaris 400

I am just wondering.
When I press off the gear to get the bearing off of the countershaft to replace the bearing how does one make sure that the gear is back in time with the weighted part of the shaft. Is it marked anyway?

It's not marked, you'd have to make your own alignment marks. If you have the bearing and a good press to be able to do this then go for it! Here's one place that does refurbish them.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-ATV-400-350L-counter-balance-shaft-water-pump-REPAIR-balancer-/300810256610?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4609b040e2&vxp=mtr

On most I encountered,no marks that I noticed. But some later ones had two small alignment marks. The key is to not damage the water pump shaft end of it when you heat and press the gear from the body.Plus if the shaft end is worn,it needs to be built up and resurfaced. I experiment with damaged ones, but there's a big difference between being just a mechanic and a machinist that has tons of specialized tools hanging around.
