Bypass Starter to 12v?

Bypass the Starter Solenoid 83 big red help plz! Blister on hands
It is pull start only, not good for a 5 foot 8 guy! Sucks!
How can I bypass the solenoid and go right in to the starter to test it?
1983 250 big red.
I get head light but no "Click" when pressing the starter.
I bypassed the fuses to make sure it was not a short.
No luck!
